We are looking for a Placement Student to join our Research & Development Centre UK team who are responsible for the development of new applications for Sysmex diagnostic technology through transitional research on biological samples.

This placement opportunity expected to commence on or around June 2023 for about 12 weeks and is aimed at students who are currently completing or have completed their second year at university. The role is based at the Cambridge Science Park.

Reporting to the Director of the R&D Centre, you will be involved in, and will contribute to, the research and development of new diagnostic projects. This role will provide experience and training in a variety of biological projects.

Your duties may include:

Conducting research on biological projects such as molecular staining and cell imaging, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR and nucleic acid analysis

Development of immune-based assays for protein measurement in clinical samples

Validation of diagnostic biomarkers using clinical samples

Experimental design and implementation of laboratory work

Monitoring relevant scientific literature

Assisting with the day to day running of the laboratory, including maintaining experimental and laboratory records, including those required by legislation e.g., Human Tissue Act

Maintaining a safe working environment in the laboratory

Ensuring adequate supplies of laboratory consumables and appropriate waste handling

Complying with all the company policies such as health and safety and information security

Ensuring all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), COSHH and other documents are understood and complied with

You will be:

Currently completing or have completed your second year at university in a biologically related scientific discipline.

Motivated and enthusiastic with good attention to detail

Good computer literacy including scientific data analysis and graphical presentation

An effective communicator both in writing and verbally

A team player who is able to work well with others

Highly organised with excellent attention to detail

Laboratory experience in cell and molecular biology protocols with advanced skills in

data analysis e.g., statistics, programming, machine learning and artificial intelligence is desirable for this role.

This role involves potential exposure to human samples and immunisation against Hepatitis B is required. A free vaccination will be offered if required.

The Medical Communications intern will report into the Medical Communications Manager working on communication to healthcare professionals for the brands La Roche Posay, CeraVe, Skinceuticals and Vichy.

The intern will need to be able to handle projects keeping to strict deadlines and work within a team with constant collaboration. They will be creating digital content, liaising with the wider field team across the country as well as working closely with marketing and supply. A medical or scientific background is preferred but an interest in medical is considered.

They will be responsible for samples forecasting, multiple digital activations and supporting at medical congresses. They need to have attention to detail and be disciplined with prioritising and time management. They need to have the ability to be firm with the wider field team and demonstrate resilience and multi-tasking. The role will be office-based in Hammersmith.

The Digital Channels Assistant role will provide you with a wide breadth of experience in your 12 months with us. You will support the Digital Marketing Solutions team to help develop and prepare marketing campaigns and messaging across all digital channels.

At the end of the placement you will have gained operational skills and platform experience. You will have experienced developing, building and delivering email marketing campaigns, developing, building, analysing and reporting on the success of these initiatives. You will be involved with website development projects, gaining strategic exposure and agency management experience. You will gain experience with website management including operational skills with our content management systems, preparing web copy and publishing content, and reporting on the success. You will also gain operational experience with B2B2C communications from involvement with our Client Communication System, supporting our customers as they communicate with their clients.

You will have an opportunity to work across all the species teams on some of the biggest brands, and with some of the biggest customers, in the veterinary market and be part of market leading initiatives. You will be involved with activity directed to animal healthcare professionals, and end users such as pet owners and farmers. The skills, experience and network you develop will support your future career.

The companion animal marketing assistant role will provide you with a wide breadth of opportunities in your 12 months with us.

Duties

Management of digital platforms – identifying opportunities to develop relevant content for the audience, planning and executing this in liaison with marketing teams, agencies and the relevant business unit

Contributing to team meetings

Providing support and assistance to the Digital Marketing Solutions team

Working independently to manage shared inbox inquiries from internal and external stakeholders

Administration tasks such as budget management, sign off management, image resizing and manipulation

Maintaining send lists within the marketing cloud

Building and sending emails from the marketing cloud

Google analytic queries

Technical Specifications

You will be looking to complete a 12-month student internship in your third or penultimate year of study of your undergraduate degree, returning to your course at the end of the internship
